Greetings in Chinese

As you may already know or you may have heard before, the most common way to greet in Chinese is by saying 你好 Nǐ hǎo. If you feel this greeting is a bit too textbook style, and want to greet in a more casual way, you can say 哈喽hā lóu, a loanword from English, which means Hello. Another loanword would be 嗨 hāi (Hi) or 嘿 hēi (hey).

Another easy greetings in Chinese is 早zǎo, which means morning in English. You can also say 早安zǎo ān. This is a form of greetings when you meet someone in the morning. If it is in the afternoon, you say 午安 wǔ ān, and in the evening you can say 晚上好 wǎn shàng hǎo. 晚安wǎn ān is normally used before you go to bed.

The last greetings is to say goodbye. The most common and test book way is to say 再见. Let us learn a casual way of saying goodbye, which is 拜拜bái bái. You have to be careful when saying this Chinese word. Bye bye in Chinese is pronounced in the 2nd tone. Whereas when you are talking amount praying, it is in the forth tone bàibài. Besides saying 拜拜bái bái, you can also say things like 走啦zǒu la, which means gotta run/Ihaveto get going. You can aslso say 下次聊 xià cì liáo, which means talk later.
