In spoken Mandarin Chinese, when you want to express a state in an exaggerated manner, you can use 死了 Sǐ le.  The Mandarin Chinese word  死 by itself means to die / death. And when you add another Mandarin Chinese word 了behind  死,死了 means already dead / died. 了indicates a completed action.

How to use the colloquial expression Si Le 死了

When using this Mandarin Chinese colloquial expression, you need to add a verb or an adjective in front of 死了. Let’s say

  1. You are very hungry to the state of death, you can say 饿死了
  2. You are very poor, you can say 穷死了
  3. You are extremely embarrassed from what had happened to you, you can say 糗死了
  4. You are very cold, you can say 冷死了
  5. The joke is extremely funny, you can say 笑死人了
  6. Something is very dirty, you can say 脏死了
  7. You are extremely sleepy, you can say 困死了
  8. You are very tired, you can say 累死了
  9. When something is extremely disgusting, you can say 恶心死了
  10. When something is very difficult, you can say 难死了
